Kregg Koch

- Attorney

The best patent lawyers are those who can merge a successful technical background with legal experience and know-how. With many years of both engineering and legal experience behind him, Kregg excels in formulating the best possible patent protection and product strategies for his clients.

Kregg launched his professional career as a rocket engine design engineer on NASA’s Space Shuttle Program. He went on to hold other engineering roles, including as a co-developer and co-inventor of multiple fitness products patented in the US and internationally. This technical knowledge has made Kregg an expert at understanding complex technologies and developing patent strategies that provide the greatest scope of protection available for any invention.

Moreover, more than ten years in the fitness industry – including product development, manufacturing, sales, and patent counseling – have given Kregg a deep knowledge of the intricacies of mechanical device patents as well as patents related to fitness of fitness/exercise equipment, sporting goods, and recreational inventions.

When it comes to his legal background, Kregg can point to a long list of accolades, including being recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers for multiple years. Kregg has more than 14 years of legal experience and has practiced at some of the country’s most prominent law firms, including top IP firm Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear.

Having worked with everyone from individual inventors and startups to Fortune 500 companies, Kregg’s goal is to provide each client with the service and attention to detail they can expect from a large firm:

"I pride myself in being able to establish strong working relationships with engineers, scientists, technology officers/managers, and patent examiners to efficiently and effectively advance your patent related goals."

Kregg is highly experienced in a broad range of mechanical and medical device technologies and methods of use, including:

Medical Devices

Solar & Clean Technology

Sporting goods &
fitness products

Consumer electronics

Automation equipment

Design patents

Electronics components

Audio components

Kregg also has significant experience in identifying patentable subject matter and developing valuable patent portfolio strategies based on clients’ products, ongoing R&D, and/or competitor products and patent holdings.  This extends to his ability to evaluate new innovations to develop US and global patent strategies – a vital skill in an increasingly chaotic global marketplace.

Kregg’s strong written and oral advocacy skills have resulted in a very high patent issuance rate before the USPTO, the European Patent Office, and other international patent offices.  He is also experienced in licensing transactions, diligence, and infringement and patentability searching and analysis.
